The Officers of EMS
Washington County – Johnson City EMS has three shifts with a Shift Supervisor on each. They hold the rank of Captain and are responsible for all day-to-day operations on their shift including resource management, staffing, and on scene coordination and command of EMS resources. They work 24-hour shifts and have an emergency vehicle stocked to respond to emergencies as necessary and provide Advanced Life Support care. Each shift also has a Lieutenant who is responsible for filling in in the absence of the Shift Captain as well as overseeing the training program for the service. The shift sergeants serve as and oversee the Field Training Officers. In addition to the three 24 hour shifts we also have a convalescent division (D-Shift) which works Monday through Saturday and is responsible for scheduled transports.

They work a standard eight-hour day, five days a week but are on call for emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Most of our administrative staff are licensed EMT’s and Paramedics who are available to respond as a provider when the need arises.
